Breaking Body Work
Drake from Team Breaking has been working furiously to get his FD ready for the upcoming season so I decided it was time for an update. In my previous post most of the work revolved around the motor, which is now wrapped up. Now that the FD is on the road it was time for Drake to turn his attention to the body, where there was a ton of work to get done before it goes to paint.
One of the biggest projects were these one-off front fenders. Drake took an existing FRP fender and added just enough flare to clear the new Enkei RS05-RR wheels he’s switched to.
RE Amemiya rear quarters were added to make enough space for the Enkei wheels in the rear. They were modified a bit to meet up seamlessly with the Sexy Style side skirts. Ignore the tires, they’re just temporary and a wider pair will be going on eventually.
I’m a big fan of the mix of parts Drake is using to stand out from the typical FD crowd in the US. That’s a genuine Mazdaspeed rear wing and Fancy Logic LED taillights. A one-off rear diffuser will be finishing off the rear once he’s done building it in-house.
In the front he went with a Foresight bumper, which was cut in half so it could be shipped from Japan. Drake is a composites pro, so glassing it back together was cake. The hood is from VIS, but he modified the vent quite a bit to improve the look and cooling capabilities.
Here’s a shot of the engine in it’s complete state. If you didn’t catch the previous post his setup includes a Garrett GTX3582 wit ha .102 Tial hotside, Tial 42mm wastegate, Bosch 1,000cc primary and 2,200cc secondary injectors, and a one-off V-mount intercooler setup utilizing a Vibrant core. It’s running on Haltech Elite and at making ~350HP at low boost.
Once Drake wraps up all the body work it will be going in for paint. It’s staying blue, but the shade will be changed to match his brother Derek’s FD. Once it’s finished expect to see a full review that will include the crazy suspension setup and one hell of a transmission upgrade.
